The Notre Dame Cathedral was built and completed in 1880 by French with a capacity of 1,200 people, become one of the architectural icons of HCMC. With the aim of building a place for French’s Christian, this construction was be built to show off the greatness of the civilization of France before colonists.

Under the floor of the church is ancient Western Catholicism tombs, of whom have first contributed to the church. Due to Vietnam’s terrain and weather, the monks had buried his death, engraved gravestone directly on the floor surface.

The Notre Dame Cathedral also has the “antiques” specials. Inside, there are two high bell tower nearly 58 meters with 6 large bell with a total weight of nearly 30 tons. All bells were cast in France, moved to Saigon in 1879. It’s really gorgeous and has quite intricate motifs.

Above the main entrance, opposite to the altar of the church was piano steeple, they put the pipe organ there – is said to be one of the oldest two piano in Vietnam. The piano is handmade, designed to sound big enough for the church to hear.

In the middle of the two bell tower, it’s a giant clock made in Switzerland in 1887, Brand RA, about 2.5 meters high, 3 meters long and more than a meter high cross , more than 1 ton. The clock quite rudimentary, old but it works pretty exact.

Furniture of cathedral is illuminated at night by electricity (no candles) since the inauguration. In the daytime, with excellent light distribution design, harmonious interior with furniture created in the cathedral a mellow light, creating a sense of peace and holiness.
